Oh isn't it lovely when you are pleasantly surprised. This little gem has been tucked away in a back ally of Darlinghurst for quite some months now. I have tried many times to go but finally I got there and after all the build up it was such a pleasure.
We rocked up about 6.30 on a weeknight and were greeted from behind the bar immediately. (tick) Then we were met by a friendly female (tick) who gave us our seating options, none palatial but that's the nature of this place, it's a 'small bar' people :)
We are seated and immediately provided with some complimentary olives and the wine / food menus. The 'by the glass' wine list is intriguing and the 'by the bottle' list is insanely long for such a small bar (300 apparently!). Oh and the wine list is in a very cute miniature folder, practical and pretty, we like that (tick tick). We order a glass of red from Pemberton WA, $14 and the campari with fresh blood orange, $8.* Both drinks were fabulous and loved by all.
We also tried the antipasti platter which was comprised of: artichoke and mint crostini, black olive course tapenade, radish and fennel salad, a mound of gorgeously smooth fresh ricotta cheese, a wedge of lime ($17) served with a side of olive bread and butter ($2) to accompany our sparkling white wine from Beaujolais, France ** ($14). The food highlight for me was the artichoke crostini and that gorgeous fresh ricotta cheese. Ah simple, perfection, I love.
Where have you been feeling the love lately?
