marlowe's way

I am giddy with love and my heart is singing adorations. I dont know who Marlowe is, but he is the man.

Marlowe's Way is such a breath of fresh air. This petite cafe is just what we need in the city centre - somewhere to chill out, recharge and be whisked off to an extraordinary land far far away (...*ahem* Melbourne).

What strikes me are the details, the wonderful heartfelt details. The whimsical nanna spoons, the industrial piped light fittings, the record player playing sweet tunes, the warmed bowls, the way each and every coffee cup and bowl of soup leaving the kitchen is lovingly sent on its way with a final flourish.

The menu is printed (or handwritten perhaps) on brown paper pages, but it's not the form that catches your attention, it's the substance. Four breakfast brioche rolls, a couple of baguettes, a couple of panini, a handful of specials including pasta and salad (roasted parsnip, heirloom carrots, rocket, chickpeas, fetta), nothing more than $12.50.

We order a flat white and a piccolo latte, $3.50 each. How good are these coffee cups. Bright orange and blue cheer me up in an instant, great colours.

smoked chicken and italian chilli jam with mozzarella and english spinach, $8

smoky chicken slices with gooey mozzarella, spinach, a chilli jam that seems tame to begin with but builds to quite a crescendo and that bread with a crisp exterior and a soft fluffy inside...dont be fooled by its apparent simplicity.

prosciutto, tomato, rocket and bocconcini with fig jam, $8

(so keen to dig in, I couldn't keep still)

my baby blue piccolo was wonderful

chocolate coated coffee beans to finish
...originally thought they were olives, that could have been weird (!)

Marlowe's Way speaks to me in a way that only a lover should know how.

On the way out I spot a 'vase' bearing the Little Hand-stirred Jam Shop label. My suspicions are confirmed, I've found a kindred spirit who speaks my food language and apparently shares my love for this little preserve shop in Berrima as well.

If you are in need of a food hug and some coffee love,
Marlowe's Way is certain to bring remarkable cheer to your day.
